His current research focuses on the molecular biology of cancer, cancer therapeutics and cancer venomics. His research group focuses on the identification and understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms of synthetic compounds and analogues derived from natural compounds as well as natural components from venoms that contribute to anti-cancer activities in human cancer cells such as lung, prostate, colon, breast and glioblastoma. He has published peer-reviewed research papers in several international and national journals and book chapters in cancer.

Yves Pommier is the Chief of the Developmental Therapeutics Branch, NCI. He obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Paris, and has studied DNA topoisomerases and the pharmacology of their inhibitors for the past 30 years. Three of his topoisomerase I inhibitors are in clinical trials. Dr. Pommier also discovered the first HIV-1 integrase inhibitors and the mechanism of action of poly(ADPribose) polymerase inhibitors by trapping PARP-DNA complexes. He pioneered the concept of drugs acting as interfacial inhibitors.
